Builder Tip #102 from HomebuiltHELP
Having your Homebuilt Inspected?
What to Expect from a DAR
Do I need to employee a DAR and what exactly do they do?
When you have finished your homebuilt project, you will need to have it inspected and receive an airworthiness certificate . There are two paths to having this accomplished: make arrangements for the FAA to conduct the inspection - or use a DAR that can perform the same function.

While the FAA choice means that this service will be "free" (tax dollars), there is no guarantee that they are available in your area. When this is the case, your alternative is to employee a DAR that can provide the same service on their behalf . They are authorized representatives of the FAA.

This week's Tip interviews a DAR located in Florida who was kind enough to share his knowledge and experience of what to expect from the DAR inspection. If you are closing in on finishing your project, listen as you can learn how to prepare for the inspection and what the DAR will be looking for. Passing an inspection is the goal of both the homebuilder and the DAR inspector!
